WCCC Computer Resource Lab

Technology is where it’s at. Today you can’t even apply for a job without access to a computer. For many low-income families, the cost of maintaining an internet connection and purchasing a computer is prohibitive. As a result many rely on public computers for access. Demand is high but availability is low.

WCCC is one of five or six sites in the City of Spokane with a Computer Lab available to the community. It is one of our most popular services. Our rules for using the Lab, reflect the high demand: no children under 16, no playing video games, no Facebooking. You get the idea. This leaves the computers open for serious users – those seeking employment, signing up for college, doing college homework, applying for benefits, etc.

Often all nine computers are in use which prompts the Lab supervisor to start limiting time according to priority. The Lab supervisor is a senior volunteering through AARP who is seeking to learn some new job skills. AARP limits the hours per week and the length of time each volunteer is with us. This can make for some choppy waters but for the most part we have been able to keep the Lab open all day, four days a week with AARP providing two seniors.

A printer is available at 25 cents. A potential user must show their ID/Driver’s License. The Computer Lab is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed on Wednesdays.

In the near future, the Lab will be moving to another room in the Center. A minor bit of remodeling will cause the Lab to be closed for an estimated two weeks during the move. WCCC is committed to providing this service for our community. We beg your patience during this time and appreciate the support you give us.

Call before you come. As the temporary closure of the Computer Lab is just around the corner, we encourage you to call before you make the trip over, especially as the weather grows more inclement. Call us at 326-9540 for any questions about the Lab or any of our programs.
