The West Central community is home to many young families. In today’s economy basic needs, like food and clothing, cost more while full time jobs with adequate wages are harder to find. It’s more of a challenge to provide everything a child needs, especially for the larger families. As winter approaches, parents worry about how they are going to afford good coats that keep the snow out and the warmth in, for each child.
This year WCCC will be the only site giving out coats in October. Knowing our community and dedicated to providing West Central with the services you need when you need them, we made special arrangements with our partners at KXLY, to start our distribution earlier than the other sites.
KXLY, who leads the charge every year, has changed things up a little and the other sites – East Central Community Center and Northeast Community Center – will start giving out coats near the end of November. For dates and times, please call these sites directly: ECCC (509)625-6699. NECC (509)487-1603. We are extremely grateful to KXLY for their consistent leadership in providing coats for families in our community and across Spokane.
Coats 4 Kids at WCCC starts the evening of our Halloween Carnival from 7:00 – 8:30 PM and will be open to those families attending the carnival. The coats will be available to the rest of the community starting Monday, October 27th. Doors will be open from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM and 3:00 – 6:00 PM weekdays until November 7th.
We do not require any “proof of” documentation; if a child needs a coat, they will get one. A child will still be cold regardless of whether we ask for documentation or not. However, we do ask that you observe one rule; you must bring your child when you come to pick their coats. This is to help prevent you from getting stuck with a coat that doesn’t fit your child as exchanges will not be allowed. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this requirement.
If you are interested in donating gently used coats, go online to http://www.kxly.com/weather/coats-4-kids/114246 and click on the button labeled “CLICK HERE FOR DROP OFF LOCATIONS.” You will find a long list of places, which makes it very convenient for donors. The nearest drop off location for our service area is Safeway on Northwest Blvd.
All donated coats are cleaned free of charge by Aramark Uniform Services before distribution.
If you have any questions regarding our (WCCC) distribution, please call us at (509)326-9540. We look forward to serving you.
